Adventures while blog hopping

So lately, I’ve been browsing blogs and obviously I come across a myriad of types, considering everyone is unique and instilled in each one of us are distinct characteristics and tendencies. What does not cease to surprise me is that it seems as though the bloggers who I truly feel are actually discussing substantial things, rather than the typical, “oh, I woke up this morning and I had this and that for breakfast and then I trudged to work and talked to my co-worker about this and that,” receive very little if any deserving feedback on their entries. I felt sorry for some of them although I shouldn’t, because feedback is not something that validates a blog in any way, shape, or form. I think what truly validates a blog is the blogger’s willingness to keep going back to it and updating it on whim because they truly enjoy it and gain something from it.

It saddens me, however, that I read some blogs that held no appeal whatsoever, yet they were swarming with comments and whatnot. I mean, the grammar and readability of the blog entries may be horrible and disgusting, yet the blog is shining with fame due to readers’ approval of the content. And then the blogger constantly (and when I say constantly, I mean it) gloats about this in his or her entries, as though it is some kind of lifetime accomplishment. I mean, it is their blog and they have a right to say whatever they desire, but I too am entitled to stating my own opinions and reactions in regard to these things.

This all simply says something about blogging these days. No matter how beautiful and meaningful I may find a certain blog, the public may not deem it so. I find it odd albeit the fact that this holds true for many elements of life besides blogging – whether it be a particular movie, book, or whatever else, this happens. Although I deem some blogs as more worthy of attention, the bloggers themselves may not care, but I personally wish that more people would resort to reading these deserving blogs because I believe they can reap much benefit from them despite some of the popular (and in my opinion, trashy) blogs being first on their reading lists.

Maybe I look too deep into things, but I’m glad that I’ve found the handful of blogs that I find amazing and read on a regular basis. If people appreciates these blogs, I am most certainly one of them.

That’s so rue…though I often think perhaps popularity also depends on popularity if you see what I mean.
Basically when people see that someone is popular they are more inclined to like them because ‘everyone else does so that means they MUST be great!’
Similarly if people come across a person with no friends or a blog with no comments then the automatically assume that the person must suck or must be boring…it’s sad but that’s human nature!
I do admit though, I know of a few bloggers who are extremely popular, who gloat over their popularity and absolutely suck! They are really my pet hates in the blogsphere- we’re probably thinking of the same people even!

Well, you’re right, but it seems to be the case for all of society now, doesnt it. Mass approval far from guarantees that it’s a quality product.

And ditto to sophister – I was looking for suggestions at teh end of ths post, on those bloggers whom you love to read. I’ll check out the links page. :)

I think what truly validates a blog is the blogger’s willingness to keep going back to it and updating it on whim because they truly enjoy it and gain something from it.
bless you for saying that cuz I get little traffic/comments except from longtime blog-friends and it doesn’t really bother me – I write because I enjoy it for myself, or because I enjoy sharing a story, a snippet of my life.

Arima: I know! Sadly enough, that is what society runs after – to be part of the “in crowd” that is in love with a particular thing no matter how much it blows. And then to gloat about is even worse, because you’re basically gloating about something that you didn’t even work very hard to attain.

Anjum: Yes, I completely agree – I even mentioned that this holds true for other facets of entertainment as well, such as books or movies. It seems as though little people go after what they truly deem as worthy of going after. I don’t thirst for popularity either. I’m happy with my blog and the visitors that I get – I am easy to satisfy! In any case, even if I was writing and no one ever wrote back, I would feel the same as I do now. As long as I get to vent or discuss things on my mind, I’m happy, regardless of the issue of someone listening or not.

    any suggestions?!

Bobby: I am pretty bad with suggestions, but I’ll try! I mean, most of this is my personal opinion so people may or may not agree with it. Additionally, I feel kind of wrong advising on what is “good” and what is “bad” considering it is a relative matter, and what may be good or bad for you may be just the opposite for me! In any case, I’ll attempt. What I look for in a blog is the following: good grammar and writing, humor (everyone loves to laugh!), seriousness where it is appropriate (as much as I like to laugh, I need some reflection time), being able to relate to the blogger (when I read something and I think to myself, “wow, that is SO true!” – I feel more attached to the blog), and honesty (anyone that isn’t afraid to tell it like it is completely gains my admiration and respect, because not enough people do that in reality). I’m also a stickler for design, although it is not a MUST for me considering many people don’t possess readily available HTML or CSS knowledge – when a blog looks amazing, it makes a good first impression on me. I know that may sound superficial, but that is just how I am given that I am a visual person. I don’t like when blogs are too cluttered or the readability is extremely bad. I love organization :) I hope these suggestions helped.

I used to have a blog when it was all ‘new’. It was fun. Had 4 regular commenter’s and only posted once a month if that. Then it was stopped. Who knows may start again one day..
